About OCLF

The Oconee County Library Friends was formed in the 1970's for the following purposes:

  • To promote an appreciation for books and the enjoyment of reading;
  • To increase public awareness and use of the Oconee County Library;
  • To support the Library staff in providing high quality service and programs for Library patrons through fund-raising, volunteerism, advocating library services, and promoting literacy throughout the county, for the enhancement of the intellectual, recreational, and educational climate of Oconee County, Georgia.

Some of the goals for our organization are as follows:

  • Assist the library in fulfilling the library's Wish List and continue to provide financial assistance for "filling in the gaps" left by public funding
  • Host an interesting and well-attended annual meeting and volunteer dinner each September
  • Create a long-range development plan for future programs and funding sources
  • Continue to grow our active membership

Our organization has donated many thousands of dollars to the Oconee Library, as well as organized and hosted many events which spotlight the wonderful literary resources of our area and the library in particular. Over the past years, OCLF has provided many books, services and pieces of equipment our public library now enjoys.
